BMW is back in one of the most prestigious touring car series in the world, the DTM. Since the company announced its return to this series after an absence of almost 20 years, the fans have been looking forward to this with excited anticipation. The driver line-up is very impressive with a multi-national group of drivers who have won just about everything there is to win in touring cars.
The American Le Mans Series will again see an assault by BMW Team RLL, and the team has a lot to live up to after its 2011 hat-trick when it won the Drivers', Team and Manufacturers' GT championships with its highly successful BMW M3 GT. Again this ten round series kicks off in Florida in Sebring in March and finishes in Road Atlanta in Georgia in October.
Support for customer racing has always been important to BMW, and so it is no surprise that there will be many teams contesting numerous championships and races in the four corners of the world. The BMW Z4 GT3 will be upholding the marque’s honours at the Nürburgring 24 Hours run by the factory-supported customer team, BMW Team Schubert. In addition, the BMW Z4 GT3 will be fielded by many other teams around the world and in various types of series.

The FIA World Touring Car Championship was a happy hunting ground for BMW with its works teams for six seasons from 2005 to 2010, but their absence has not meant the end of the BMW drivers on the podium. Last year the BMW 320 TC was a winner in the series and will continue to be contested by various teams for both overall and independent category wins. The BMW M3 GT4 is also another favourite with the customer teams, with its class of racing being for cars very close to the production model. In this category it has been very successful, winning both the Dutch GT4 Series and the GT4 European Cup in 2011.
